Winsford win again!
By Jonathan Wright
Winsford United made it 3 wins in 3 and 6
points in the last 3 days after a strong 4-1
win at home at Barton stadium against
Padiham Monday night
Winsford took the lead after 10 minutes
when Wealth Da Silva’s powerful strike
from the edge of thebox was spilled by the
goalkeeper leading toa simple tap in for Sam
Madeley.
Winsford were playingwell and tried to extent the lead with some
good chances. Sam Madeley shot wide after a long ball went through everyone
and a corner lead to a goalmouth scrabblewhich was eventually cleared by Padiham.
The away side soon started to grow intothe game however and scored the
equaliser on the half hour mark throughSimon Nangle.
Driven on by the determination to regain the lead Winsford soon
shifted into top gear again and scored just minutes later through a
scruffy corner which ended up going in off Madeley after some
sloppy defending.
Winsford extended their lead 10 minutes later after a terrific run from Madeley before
chipping the ball to a delighted D’Arcy O’Connor for a simple header into an
empty net. Winsford were well deserving of their lead at the half time break.
After a very quiet and scrappy first 20 minutes of the second half, Winsford
scored what ended up being the final and the finest goal of the game after a brilliant
cross from substitute Brian Mathews found Sam Madeley who ghosted in
behind the defender and poked the ball in for his hat-trick.
Unfortunately, the rest of the game was very similar to the start of the second half
with limited chances for either side. But in the end Winsford go away from the
game with a fantastic performance and result which sees them climb up to 9th in
the table.
