Winsford Utd 0 - 2 Ryelands (7 September 2019)
Match report by Jonathan Wright
After a dull first 15 minutes or so where there was little to no chances and neither team made any real progress, the game burst into life with an explosive 30 minutes.
First, Winsford thought they took the lead after captain Steve Jenyons header found the back of the net from a free-kick. However, it was ruled out due to a ball from the crowd being on the pitch of all reasons!
Rylands took the lead minutes later through Tom Freeman after tapping in a cross after it avoided all the Winsford defenders. Winsford’s luck didn’t improve after a superb volley from Winsford midfielder Sam Fitton crashed against the bar.
Rylands doubled their lead just 3 minutes after the first when striker Jay White curled it into the corner of the off the post after some brilliant footwork to create space. Before the half-time whistle, Rylands had a 3rd chalked off for offside but it was an easy decision for the officials in the end.
Rylands were good value for their 2 goal advantage at break after clearly being the better side.
Unfortunately, the second half followed the trend of the first 15 minutes with little action in either teams penalty area despite a double change from Winsford at the break in bringing on 2 attack minded players. It was a brilliant defensive performance from Rylands after limiting Winsford’s chances and controlling the game.
Winsford were left very disappointed after not being able to break through the solid defence and create even any half chances. They left the game without troubling the Rylands goalkeeper at all and failing to look dangerous
