Who am I?
Kevin Wright, married to Jo and we have two lads, Dominic (18) and Jonathan (15).
Born in Nantwich and have lived most of my life in and around Winsford
Why am I joining the board at Winsford United?
I used to follow Winsford home and away in the early 80’s, but I’d always promised myself, when I got my first job and would buy a season ticket at Liverpool. I still have the same season ticket.
So after 30 years plus away from non-league football, I came to watch Winsford in January of this year as my 15 year old had only ever been to Anfield and wanted to see real football 🙂
I have to admit I’m hooked again. I had forgotten how brilliant Non-League football could be. The Premier League is now an ‘event’ for every game and with only 2 or 3 teams coming to Anfield and not parking the bus, it’s a little frustrating. Not that I will stop going nor give up my season tickets! But there’s nothing wrong in having two teams.
I found the ambience at Winsford a real surprise. Ray and the board, Lee and the players and all the volunteers have created a really positive vibe, from what I can see. Everyone pulling in the same direction.
What can I bring to the board?
I can add to the enthusiasm that’s already there. Look at things with fresh eyes and maybe offer new ideas (or probably ideas that have already been thought of before, but there’s no harm in trying again!)
I have worked in IT all my working life, so I can help with regard to the IT side of things. I’ve produced the new website, I’m looking at new ways to offer a match day programme and anything else IT related
You may have also seen me pitch side with my camera over the last few months as I’m a keen photographer.
What do I know about football?
Same as everybody else really. I’m a fan.
For the last 10 years I have run teams at junior football. Currently I have sole responsibility for managing and coaching (I have my level 1 FA coach J) two U15 teams in Bunbury. I’m a pretty pants coach to be honest but the kids are happy and our success is mainly to do with keeping players and growing the team.
