3rd Madeley Hat trick eases Blues to another win

By Jonathan Wright

Winsford United 3 - 1 Avro

Winsford United extended their winning streak to 4 games after a hard fought 3-1 victory against Avro at Barton Stadium.

After a very good start for Winsford, they took the lead in the first 5 minutes through a Sam Madeley header after a great cross from the in-form D’arcy O’Connor. Winsford controlled the first 15 minutes, though as the half wore on Avro were coming into the game more making it very much an open contest.

The game became very fierce and hotly contested and all came to head at the end of the first half with a huge scuffle with both sets of players and coaches involved. In the end, both teams had a coach sent off and the atmosphere was quite tense going into the half time break.

Fortunately for the home fans, the blues came out for the 2nd half fired up and were the better team at the start of the half and doubled their lead after another superb cross from Sam Marshall found Sam Madeley who scored once again with an excellent header. Avro responded well by putting the pressure on Winsford and were rewarded with a goal with a brilliantly placed shot by Lee O’Brien leaving goalkeeper Green with no chance.

In response Winsford went more defensive and became very solid giving only a few half chances to Avro. As the game drew into a nervy final few minutes for Winsford, substitute Brendan O’Brien managed to break through the Avro defence, was tackled and the ball fortunately fell to an opportunistic Sam Madeley who scored to secure the 3 points and to make it back to back hat-tricks for himself.

Winsford went home the happy team after some clinical finishing and solid defending against a dangerous side and with the win they climb up to 7th in the table.
